Advent Funeral & Cremation Services - Lanham

Advent Funeral & Cremation Services - Lanham is a funeral home in the Lanham-Seabrook community of Lanham, Maryland. It is part of Advent Funeral & Cremation, a family of funeral home locations serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The location provides burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, pre-need planning, reception and catered events, kosher catering, veterans services including military honors, ash scattering assistance, certified celebrant services, and memorial diamonds through a partner provider.

Advent Funeral & Cremation was founded in 1993 by Melanie Wilhelm Dunaway, a third-generation funeral director who sold her home to fund the company's inaugural facility in Annapolis, Maryland. The founder chose the name Advent for its literal meaning: a new beginning. The Lanham location opened in 2013 on Annapolis Road near the Capital Beltway, in a building that has operated continuously as a funeral home since 1969.

The facility includes multiple chapels, reception and event space, and accommodations for identification viewings, private viewings, and overnight visitations. Spanish-speaking staff are available to assist families.

Advent Funeral & Cremation Services - Lanham does not operate an on-site cemetery or on-site crematory. Pet cremation, licensed grief therapy, and legal or estate planning services are not offered.

Families frequently identify individual staff members by name in reviews, a pattern that holds across multiple team members and reflects consistent individual attention through the arrangement process.

Cremation is performed at Chesapeake Crematory, a company-owned cremation care facility in Beltsville, Maryland dedicated specifically to cremation services. The care center is owned by the same organization as Advent Funeral & Cremation Services and staffed by company employees.  In the event that cremation equipment is unavailable, cremation will occur at another location.
