Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel - Ontario

Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel – Ontario is a funeral home in Ontario, Oregon, serving the surrounding communities. Services include burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, pre-need planning, incense burning, memorial diamonds and human composting (offered through partner providers), body donation coordination, and ash scattering assistance.

The location has served Ontario, in the Downtown Ontario Retail District, since 1907, when the Peterson family began selling caskets and coordinating funeral arrangements from their furniture storefront. In 1911, developer J.R. Moore constructed a dedicated building on Oregon Street anchoring the business downtown, and the undertaking division was sold to local funeral director George Beechler. In 1925, architect Louis Vogan designed a purpose-built mortuary at 78 NW 1st Ave, which became the permanent home of the continuing operation and remains the location's current address. Separately, in 1933, Burt and Joyce Lienkaemper established the original Lienkaemper Funeral Home in Nyssa, Oregon, later expanding into Ontario and Vale. In 1961, partners Bertelson and Burt Lienkaemper purchased the existing Ontario business, consolidating it as the Bertelson-Lienkaemper Memorial Chapel. In 2004, the business became part of joint operations known as Lienkaemper-Thomason Funeral Centers. The business has operated under its current name, Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel – Ontario, since 2018.

The location includes a chapel and dedicated areas for identification and private viewings. Spanish-speaking staff are available to assist families.

Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel – Ontario does not operate an on-site cemetery or crematory and does not provide pet cremation. Families frequently recognize individual staff members by name in reviews, describing both genuine care and a thorough, knowledgeable approach during a difficult time.

Cremation services are performed at company-owned facilities in the Boise metro area. Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel is part of a network of locations that includes its own cremation infrastructure — so families choosing cremation here work directly with our staff throughout, rather than being transferred to an independent third-party provider.  In the event that cremation equipment is unavailable, cremation will occur at another location.
