The brand was established in 1950 when James A. McGuinness Sr. and his wife Marie L. McGuinness opened the first location in Woodbury, New Jersey. James A. McGuinness Sr. was a lifelong Woodbury resident and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps who completed his mortuary studies following his World War II service, and he served as the firm's primary licensed funeral director for more than half a century. James A. McGuinness Jr. obtained his practitioner license and assumed active management of the business following his father's death in 2010. The brand's second location opened in 2002.
