The Melbourne location was founded in 1971 by George W. Ammen, Jr. under the name South Brevard Funeral Home. George's son Michael joined the business in 1973, establishing its family-led character that continued for 48 years. The Space Coast Crematory was added to the Melbourne location in 1994, giving the business an on-site cremation capability that has been part of its operations for more than four decades. The business formally changed its name to Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care in 2011.
