Our Information

History and Beauty in St. Petersburg’s Sunnyside Cemetery

Sunnyside Cemetery is a cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida, operated in association with Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes. The cemetery serves families throughout St. Petersburg and the surrounding area and provides burial services, funeral and memorial services, pre-need planning, and veterans services including military honors.

Sunnyside Cemetery was established in 1895 by Nathaniel Ellis as a private family burial ground known as the Ellis Graveyard. In 1904, John O'Berry purchased the property and formed the Sunnyside Cemetery Association, and the cemetery opened to the public in 1905. Anderson McQueen acquired the property in 1984. Sunnyside Cemetery is one of the three oldest cemeteries in St. Petersburg and is recognized for its canopy of Spanish moss-draped oaks and its historical significance to the city.

Cemetery features include a cremation garden and niches, private and family lots, build-to-suit cemetery property, and custom headstones.

Sunnyside Cemetery does not operate an on-site crematory and does not include a chapel, service room, or reception space.
