It is part of Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart, commonly known as BRBS, a family of funeral home locations serving the Amsterdam, New York metropolitan area. The location provides burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, pre-need planning, and veterans services including military honors.
The Amsterdam location traces its founding to 1860, when Isaac S. Shuler, a woodworker and cabinetmaker, began providing undertaker services on Amsterdam's South Side — establishing the earliest founding lineage within the BRBS family. The business operated from storefronts near the South Side and Market Street across successive generations. The current facility at 171 Guy Park Avenue was constructed in the late 1890s as a private residential mansion during Amsterdam's industrial textile boom, commissioned by Turner & Sons, recognized locally as Amsterdam's most prominent builders of that era.
The Betz family acquired the property in 1990 and consolidated their historical Amsterdam operation at that site. An independent Amsterdam firm, Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, had operated separately on North Jay Street since 1979; that firm merged with the Betz location around 2004. That same year, the BRBS brand was formally incorporated, uniting operations across Amsterdam, Gloversville, Fultonville, and Canajoharie under a single family of locations.
The facility includes a chapel and accommodates both identification viewings and private viewings. Spanish-language services are available on site.
Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home - Amsterdam does not operate an on-site cemetery, an on-site crematory, or pet cremation services.
