Wilhelm's Portland Mausoleum

Wilhelm's Portland Mausoleum is a mausoleum and interment facility in Portland, Oregon. It is co-located with Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home, a full-service funeral home operating on the same grounds. The facility serves the Portland metropolitan area with burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, and pre-need planning.

Wilhelm's Portland Mausoleum opened on April 24, 1901, as the Portland Crematorium, founded by the Portland Cremation Association. It is the first and oldest crematorium west of the Mississippi River. While cremation services are no longer offered on-site, the facility continues to operate as a historic mausoleum and interment center. In 1919, an adjacent mausoleum was constructed to hold 400 marble-lined vaults for full-body interment. Additional niche and vault rooms were added throughout the 20th century, including hand-carved German woodwork installed in the 1970s. The facility was designated as a WWII bomb shelter due to its steel, granite, and concrete construction.

The mausoleum features multiple chapels and spaces for identification and private viewings. Notable architectural elements include a replica Pietà sculpture, carved by Taverelli Studios in Italy, and an extensive 50,000-square-foot exterior mural depicting the Oaks Bottom Wetlands Wildlife Area, completed in 2009. Visitors frequently describe the mausoleum as a distinctive Portland landmark, noting staff-led tours that draw on deep knowledge of the facility's architectural history and the influential families memorialized there.

Wilhelm's Portland Mausoleum does not offer on-site cemetery services or pet cremation.
