Agnes Marilyn Havig

Agnes (Aggie) Havig passed away on February 17th at Friendship Village Healthcare in Tempe, AZ after a year-long journey with atypical Parkinson’s symptoms and dementia. She was 83. Agnes was born on the family farm near Tabor, South Dakota on July 28th, 1935 to Emil and Helen Dvoracek. Her early years were spent on the farm with no electricity and no running water. She attended rural Byrne School for grades 1-8 and was active in 4-H which was the start of her excellent culinary skills. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1953. Agnes started a career after high school as Office Clerk and Office Manager for Lipsett, Inc. in Yankton, SD. Her marriage to Robert L. Hoffman in 1955 lasted 20 years living in Billings, MT since 1959. They had a son, Gregory (Sally Simbob) and daughter Karen (Werner Buchmann). Her next career began in 1969 when she was employed by Security Trust and Savings Bank in Billings (now known as First Interstate Bank), as a secretary, subsequently moving up to Vice President by 1980 and retiring in 1997 after 28 years. During that time in Billings she was active in many organizations and cultivated many friendships along the way. She served as President as well as other offices for Zonta Club of Billings. She also served on the Boards of Treasure Trails Girl Scouts, Red Cross, and Rimrock Foundation. She also served several years as Chair of the Montana Bankers Association Real Estate Finance Committee. She was also involved in MAFE, American Association of Female Accountants and the American Association of Business Women. She was a pioneer in mentoring women into higher positions in business in the 1970’s and 1980’s. After 20 years of single life, she married Raymond (Ray) Havig in 1997. They travelled extensively to all continents except Antarctica. Since 2000, they spent winters at Leisure World in Mesa, AZ where they finally settled permanently in 2015. Agnes and Ray enjoyed music and dancing on many cruises and adventures. She was an athletic and dynamic woman who enjoyed tennis, skiing and running, while also delving into music and reading. A self-professed (news junkie), Agnes kept up on current events by reading newspapers and other media. Agnes is survived by her brother Franklin Dvoracek (Ann) of Placerville, CA, son Gregory Hoffman (Sally) of Midland, MI, and daughter Karen Buchmann (Werner) of Laveen, AZ. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Justin Hoffman of Somersworth, NH and Lauren Hoffman, of Columbus, OH. She is predeceased by her parents, Emil and Helen Dvoracek. Her husband Ray Havig passed away July 9, 2018; and Robert Hoffman passed away December 22, 2018. Donations to honor Agnes’ memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
