Arva (Schultz) Jensen, a resident of Salinas since 1948 passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Arva was born on April 4, 1919 to Frederick William Schultz and Lottie Kate Schultz (no relation to each other prior to marriage) in Miles City, Montana. Arva was the youngest of six children. The Schultz family name is the occupational name for the man in charge of a village as a magistrate, sheriff, or overseer which described Arva’s “in charge” personality throughout her 97 years of life. As a young teenager, Arva took care of her invalid mother and at age 13 began driving her brother’s car to the grocery store upon his refusal to continuously drive her. Prior to this, Arva learned sewing techniques from her seamstress mother and later became an accomplished seamstress herself. In the fall of 1937, Arva wed Einner Jensen, the “boarder” from across the street. Their first child, Judy Lee Jensen Bronson was born in 1939 in Miles City, Montana; second child, Frederick (Rick) Jensen was born in 1944 in San Francisco, California; third child, Christopher (Chris) Jensen was born in 1954 in Salinas, California. Arva volunteered as a “pink” lady at Salinas Memorial Hospital, enjoyed quilting at the church and was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, enjoyed square dancing with the “Jeans and Queens”, cultivated varieties of roses, made annual trips to family reunions in Miles City, Montana, traveled the world, and always extended warm hospitality to friends and family. She will be missed by her surviving sons Rick (Adrienne) Jensen, Chris (Linda Taylan) Jensen, son-in-law Orval Bronson, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. A graveside service will be approximately 3:00 p.m. at the Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 580 Larkin Street, Salinas, California 93907 or a charity of your choice.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
