CARL A. DURHAM Kingsport- Carl Axley Durham, 89, of Kingsport, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday (May 18, 2019) at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was the son of the late Dewey and Rachel Durham of Big Stone Gap, VA. Carl retired from Westmoreland Coal Company. He was a member of Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lula Coomer, Etta Harold, and Virginia Heard. Left to survive him are his loving wife of 63 years, Opal Begley Durham; his daughters, Carla Taylor and husband, Wes, Rhonda Willis and husband, Jeff, Debra Darter and husband, Jim, Teresa Deal; his granddaughters, Gretta Vaughn and husband, Anthony, Rebecca Marsh and husband, Jeremiah, Lauren Taylor and fiancé, Jordan Kiser, Amanda Eidson and husband, Andy, Morgan Gilliam and husband, Jacob; a grandson, Neal Willis; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Houck, Clara Tucker, and Dorene Melson; his special friend, Delmar Lester. A graveside service only will be conducted on Wednesday (May 22, 2019) at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with a eulogy being given by Delmar Lester and a committal prayer by Pastor Brian Capps. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Steve Adkins for taking care of our Dad throughout the years along with his home healthcare nurse, Nikki Collier for the special care given during his illness.
