Carmen Welsh, 98, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on October 25, 2023. Carmen was born to Clotilde Alfaro and Ramon Rodriguez in Brooklyn on January 16, 1925. She was born into a Catholic family with roots in Nicaragua. Carmen was the grandmother to 35 children, G-Grand to 64 children, GG-Grand to 10 children, and three children in the oven, and GGG-Grand to 1(one), she is also survived by 21 grand and great grand step-children. When she was young, she had to leave nursing school to find work and became a welder; during World War II she welded for the US Armed Forces. She spent the first half of her adult years as a stay-at-home Mom until the death of her husband. With 6 young children at home, she went to work for the Archdiocese of New York. Once retired she and her mother Zaza moved to Houston, Texas with her youngest daughter and started the next happy chapter of their lives. In July 2014 Carmen moved to Colorado. In her retired years she enjoyed traveling with her family. And she went EVERYWHERE. In May of 2023 she had a massive stroke that forced her to step on the breaks. Mom would still say she could be packed in 5 and ready to roll. Her love for life, dancing and singing made it such a joy to be around her. Carmen was the mother of Carol (William) Rosson, William (Theresa) Welsh, Andrew Welsh, Elizabeth (Albert) Welsh, Lantress (William) Valesquez, Geraldine (Steven) Welsh, Carmen (Michael) Kersey. She was preceded in death by Dorothy, Gary and Charlie. During her final months, her strength never faltered. Carmen was the most understanding, loving, caring and patient person. She kept that same peacefulness and love in her heart from the beginning to the very end. Her passing is heart-breaking and a void that will never be filled. Salud, Dinero, Amor Y Tiempo, Para Gastarlo. Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Friday, November 10, 2023, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
