Deborah "Debbie" Leialoha Pua Debbie died peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 13, 2017 after a courageous 23-month battle with cancer. She was born on October 25, 1954, a territorial baby on the island of Oahu when Hawaii was not yet a state. A true Hawaiian! She attended Waimanalo Elementary and Inter School, graduating from Kailua High School. She moved to California in the early 1980’s residing in Salinas for the past 26 years. She is truly loved and will be missed by all her Ohana and friends. She leaves behind her sons R.J. and Aaron Pua, family dog Ciara and brother Micah Pua of Centennial, Colorado. She is also survived by all her godchildren, devoted friends, her local Hawaiian community and all of those who she touched by her kindness, love and ever-present humor. She remained proud of her Hawaiian heritage throughout her life. One of her greatest joys was sharing stories of growing up in Hawaii and beautiful island traditions, a legacy that will be carried on by her son Aaron. An avid sports fan she especially enjoyed cheering on her son R.J. and numerous nieces and nephews at their school sports events, watching the Golden State Warriors and attending Giants games at AT&T Park. Debbie’s entire career was dedicated to 44 years in the Insurance Industry, most recently with Valley Regional Insurance. She gave back to her community by volunteering for many years to the Salinas Parade of Lights, Salvation Army Red Kettle program, Salinas High School Boosters and served as Captain for Team Imua-Go Forward as part of Salinas Relay for Life events. She is preceded in death by parents Stanley and Maile Pua and brother Stanley Nathan Pua. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 630pm at the Healey Mortuary Chapel 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salinas, CA 93905. Aloha attire encouraged.

We Entrusted Deborah Pua's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
