Dolores Sutyla

Dolores Sutyla of Amsterdam, passed away on Friday March 31, 2023 at the age of 93. Throughout her life, Dolores held many titles: Daughter, Sister, Niece, Friend, Wife, Mother, Grandma, Aunt, Homemaker, Gardener, Seamstress, Caretaker and last but not least, Pierogi- making aficionado. In addition, she was employed outside the home at various former Amsterdam industries. Dolores was preceded in death by Leonard, her husband of 59 years, and Deborah, her daughter. The Christmas Wigilia, where she served her yummy pierogi and borscht, will be missed by those left behind. (The debate if the cheese and potato were better than the cabbage will continue.) Surviving are her daughter, Lynn Rooney (Michael), a granddaughter, great aunt, sister, several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and kindness provided by Dr. Emily Etzkorn, the nurses and aides at St. Mary’s Healthcare, St. Theresa Hall, Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility and Community Hospice. Relatives and friends will be received on Monday April 10, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell St., Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus at 10:30AM with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.
