Doretha Lucas, the daughter of the late James and Doretha Penny was born in Smithfield, NC April 8, 1934 and departed this life to be with the Lord on September 13, 2015 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Doretha was the beloved wife of her late husband Benjamin Lucas, and the beloved sister of her late brothers, Samuel Penny, Thomas Penny, and Pastor Henry Penny; and her late sisters Janie Watson and Minnie Ammons. Mother Lucas is survived by her beloved sons Michael, Frederick, Bennie, Darnell Greene and Andre Lucas, and daughters Rita and Lutrecia Greene. One daughter-in-law; 11 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; 4 sisters Reverend Christine McClearn, Thelma Monk, Mary Francis O’Neal, and Sarah Stokes; 1 brother, James Penny; 2 brother-in-laws Joseph Stokes, and Jessie O’Neal; one Sister-in-law Molly Penny, several Godchildren, and a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Mother Doretha Lucas will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Services will be held at Faith Temple #2 OF Baptist Church; 211 Maryland Park Drive, Capitol Heights, Maryland 20743. The viewing will begin a 10:00 AM and home going services are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM. The interment will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery on Bladensburg Road, Hyattsville Maryland. Pastor Terrence Melvin will conduct the Eulogy and Elder Samuel McClearn officiate the service. The family will greet family and friends during the repast to be held at the church immediately following. Funeral arrangements coordinated with Advent Funeral Home under the care of DeShaun Watts. The family extends special thanks to each of you for your care and condolences during this time of bereavement.
