Ellis James Stocks, 79, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 21, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of Connie Nelson Stocks.

 

Born January 26, 1945 in Kinston, NC, he was a son of the late Horace E. and Penny Louise Sumerell Stocks. He was a retired sales associate from Ferguson Enterprises, a job that he loved, and attended Inglewood Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War having honorably served in the United States Navy. Ellis loved going to the beach with his wife, Connie, and friends. He was a huge fan of all UNC sports and loved the New York Yankees.

 

In addition to his wife, Connie, he is survived by one son,  Col. James A. Stocks (Patti) of Stafford, VA; two stepsons, Jeremy Brown (Stephanie) and Brian Brown (Samantha), all of Lynchburg, VA; one daughter, Jody S. Williams (Greg) of Newport News, VA; one brother, Henry “Hank” Stocks (Susan) of Churchville, MD; two sisters, Emma Mae Stocks Dunn (Robert) of Ayden, NC and Kay Stocks Cisco (Travis) of Newbern, NC; eight grandchildren, Rusty Williams, Benjamin Stocks, Matthew Stocks, Caroline Stocks, Amber Klein, Cameron Brown, Austin Brown, Tenly Brown and his two much loved fur babies, Allie and Willa Grace.

 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday July 28, 2024 at Inglewood Baptist Church, 4830 Old Boonsboro Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24503 with Pastor Dan G. Mason and Rev. Kathy Nicholls officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Inglewood Baptist Church, 4830 Old Boonsboro Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24503 or Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502.
