Ethel B. Edie Stevens passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California on December 12, 2009. She is survived by her four children: James Stevens of Snowflake, Arizona, Carolyn Cook of Portland, Oregon, Tricia Stevens of Sacramento, California, and George Stevens, Jr. of Woodland, California. Edie had five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George L. Stevens, who passed away on April 17, 2004. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Burrell, and many nieces and nephews. Edie was born in Safford, Arizona, on January 13, 1930, the youngest of eight children. She attended Utah State University and Arizona State University where she received degrees in education and home economics. Edie taught elementary and junior high school children for many years and was a reading specialist, helping young children with reading skills. Edie and George made their homes all across the western states starting in Mesa, Arizona, and including Gilroy, California; Sanger, California; Bellevue, Washington; North Ogden, Utah; and Roseville, California. Edie was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, coming from a long line of Mormon pioneers. Edie was an accomplished seamstress and loved to garden and travel. She loved her English heritage and her home was filled with English treasures. A memorial open house will be held on Wednesday, December 16 at her home in Roseville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19 at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa, Arizona. Viewing at 8:30 am, Funeral Service at 10 am. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements.
