Frederick Kellogg passed away peacefully on April 23, 2014, at the age of 84. A Celebration of his life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, in the UA Museum of Art's Retablo Room. Fritz was born in Boston, MA, to Frederick (Dr.) and Stella Kellogg. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson HS in Long Beach, CA, and received degrees from Stanford University (BA), University of Southern California (MA) and Indiana University (PhD). Fritz was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Kay Kellogg. He is survived by daughter, Kristine Calvert; granddaughter, Sara Calvert; sister, Carol and John Pitts; niece, Liane and Weldon Benedict; nephew, David and Christine Pitts; grandnieces, Helen and Nora Pitts. Known to many in the University community as Professor Kellogg, Fritz shared his love for history to countless students during his 46 years of teaching (41 at the UA). Although, he taught Russian History and Eastern European Studies, his passion was Romanian History. He was a published author of books and articles concerning Romanian History. For many years he was the managing editor of Southeastern Europe, a multidisciplinary, multilingual journal. In 1960-61, Fritz was a Research Scholar in Romania as part of the US-Romania Cultural Exchange, a precursor to The Fulbright Program based on the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961. In 2010, he returned to participate in the 50th anniversary celebrations of The Fulbright Program in Romania. Fritz was a great lover of the arts and sports. He enjoyed watching Wildcat football and basketball. He was a long-time supporter of Tucson's opera, musical and dramatic theater, and ballet. Many times he would give his tickets to unsuspecting, yet grateful, students, friends and neighbors. But an even greater passion was his love for books, his love for learning. He had a significant role in adding to the University Library's collection of books relating to Russia and Eastern Europe. He wanted his students to have access to writings that for so long had been inaccessible. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family hopes that donations will be made to a public, private or university library of one's choosing. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
