George F. Maye Sr., 70, of Houseman St. Mayfield, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side, on Sunday April 28, 2013 after a long illness. He was born June 2, 1942 in Albany, N.Y. to the late Ernest and Rose Maye of Johnstown. He was educated in Johnstown schools and served in the Army from 1959 -1963. George worked as a railroad conductor for Conrail in Selkirk for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and trapping. An avid sports fan, George loved the New York Jets and the New York Yankees. He was an excellent bowler and won the league championship with his team, "The In Crowd", in 2001. George had great enjoyment watching humming birds, but perhaps was best known for telling a great joke and being the "Park Police". He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Maye of Mayfield whom he married June 22, 1960, his children ;George "Rick" Jr. Annette, Laurie Harvey, Corey Brandi, Chad Sr. Lissetta and grandchildren; Austin, Joey, David Ashley, Sena, Breanna, Easton, Chad Jr., Jared, Georgie and his great granddaughter Jayden. George is also survived by a sister, Joyce McDuffie and a brother Daniel Maye. He was pre-deceased by a granddaughter Lorianna Martz and his brothers; Ernest, Robert, Richard and John Maye. The family will receive friends on Thursday May 2, 2013 from 11 am - 1 pm at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Donations in his memory can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Northville, N.Y. 12134.
