George Edward Morgan passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 96 years old. Ed was a devout Christian. Ed was born on June 29,1927 in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. As a young boy growing up during the Great Depression, he helped his family by delivering papers and groceries, and gathering coal from the railroad tracks for the furnace. His dream of being a Major League Ball player were about to come true when World War 2 broke out and at 16 with his parents' permission he joined the Navy. He was selected for training in an elite Underwater Demolition Team called Frogmen now known as the Navy Seals. His first action was in the Normandy France invasion. After Normandy his team was pulled out of Europe and sent to the Pacific Theatre involving many of the island landings. In this capacity he went on to receive a WWII Victory Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, and The Presidential Unit Citation, in addition to 2 Purple Hearts. After a bomb incident throwing Ed out of enemy waters and the war was over, he was medically discharged from the Navy, Stateside he met and married June. Ed was successful as an Executive at The Duffy Mott Company and in their own Food Brokerage Business in Arizona. They were married for 56 years until June passed away in 2004. June and Ed had 2 children who survive Ed. His son; Donald Morgan and his wife Mary Lou and their son (grandson) Charles. Also a grandson George (deceased) and daughter; Grace Ann Mitchell and her husband Ken. Ed is survived by his loving wife of almost 19 years, Patricia. They loved their Pinetop home and many rounds of golf. He is also survived by his younger brother Robert Morgan and his wife Margaret. A private family service at the Phoenix, National Cemetery will be held on January 31, 2024. It is the families wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Hospice of the Valley.
