Gladys Fern Dodd passed away in Paradise, CA, on September 13, 2018, at the age of 93. Gladys was born on March 28, 1925, in Montebello, CA, to Herbert Holbrook and Abbigail Holbrook (Mullins). As a third generation California resident, she attended Montebello High School where she met the love of her life, Myron Dodd. She traveled with her husband while he was in the Air Force from 1945-1949, and many years after. In 1947, Gladys and Myron lived in the Phillipines Islands with their two young boys, Dennis and Dale. In 1960, Gladys and Myron moved to Marysville, CA, with their, now, four children; Dennis, Dale, Doug, & Deanna. During the years that past, she graduated from Yuba College with an AA Degree, worked for the DMV for 22 years in Yuba City, was a member of the international training in communication, formally called the Toastmistress and served as judge for speech contests. She was very active in the Sutter Buttes Regional Theater, performing in plays such as, Arsinck and Old Lace, and Good Night Ladies. She did her frist performnce at the Marysville Hotel. In the late 1980s, after Gladys and Myron both retired, they traveled the world to many different countries and also many states in the U.S. In addition, they would spend a month out of every year in Hawaii. During the 1990s in between traveling, she would enjoy her time participating in her grandchildren's class fieldtrips, activities, and sports. In the 2000's, she was a member of the Rideout Hospital Auxillery as a pink lady. She was known for her kind, genuine nature and always being happy. She loved baking, gardening, sewing and taking the occasional leisure flight in her husband's airplane. She is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Myron, and her son, Douglas Dodd. Gladys is survived by her elder sister, Betty June Davidson of Chico, CA; sons, Dennis Dodd of Collinsville, OK, and Dale Dodd (Lorrie) of South Lake Tahoe, CA; daughter, Deanna Darrough of Yuba City, CA; four grandchildren, Jeremy Dodd (Shannon) of Moore, OK, Jennifer Scott (Eric) of Collinsville, OK, Tarra Darrough of Yuba City,CA, Abbie Darrough (Jason) of MarysvilIe, CA; great-grandchildren, Destiney, Skyler, Ethen, Noah and Salem. A celebration of life will be held at 859 Jones Road in Yuba City, CA, on October 6, 2018 at 11:00am. Please join us for some fond memories.
