Glen Melvan Hartley

Glen Melvan Hartley was born February 2nd 1949 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was raised by His Mother Shirley Jean Murphy and James Theodore Hartley. Glen Had 2 siblings Anita Morgan (deceased) and Denis Hartley. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball. Our father whom most of you know as Mel attended Ottumwa High School where he was a wrestler and football player. After high school a member of his church got him a scholarship to Indian Hills Community College for their electrical tech program. His first Job after college was at Honeywell in Oklahoma. Shortly after getting a place and working his new job, on a trip back to Iowa he met his beautiful wife Judy Kay Pierson and he married her and brought her to Oklahoma. They then brought their beautiful daughter Misty Gayle Hartley-Gowdy into the world. Two years later Honeywell had a lay off and Mel found a new Job in Colorado where he and Judy brought the second of 2 little girls into the world. He worked hard and a lot to provide what we needed in life and many wants. He worked at this job for over 25 years, working 7 days a week for the majority of his adult life. Mel participated in bowling leagues and loved fishing, camping and boating in his younger years. After a layoff at his Storage Tek he worked for Spartan Medical. In 2007 he lost his wife to pancreatic cancer and he worked even harder. Mel finally retired 5 years ago to take care of his oldest daughter after surgery. He started to have liver trouble and was diagnosed with liver cancer in January 2021 and lung cancer in April 2021. His kidneys shut down during his last hospital stay and he succumbed to kidney failure August 2nd 2021. Mel was always there for friends, family and neighbors when needed and they in return for him. He would play basketball with his children and then all the boys in the neighborhood would come to play too which made his girls jealous. Our father absolutely loved his grandsons. They have been the highlight of his life for the past 19 years. They are very different but he was proud of them every step of the way for many reasons. He loved that they played sports and chose to go to college and earn degrees. We know he will be watching from heaven, proud of their futures as well. Our dad was a strong amazing man who supported his family in every way. He is survived by his brother Denis Hartley, daughters Misty Gowdy (Aaron Gowdy), Wendy Hartley, his grandsons Dathan Hartley and Wesley Gowdy and His Nephews Adam, Andrew (Natalie Morgan), and Daniel Morgan (Tracey Czyzyk), and (Great niece Emma Morgan), Brian Hartley (Sarah Hartley) and their three beautiful children Ella, Tessa and Mac. A funeral service will be held at North Metro Church in Thornton Colorado on Thursday, August 5th at 1:00 pm. An additional viewing and gravesite service will be held at Reece†™s funeral home in Ottumwa, Iowa on Saturday, August 7th.
