Guido "Santo" M. Barquero
December 1st, 1945 - June 22nd, 2024
Guido M. “Santo” Barquero, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 1, 1945, in Heredia, Costa Rica, a son of the late Maria Andeli Hernandez Villareal and José Juaquín Barquero Cortes.
Santo retired from the City of Amsterdam Department of Public Works, where he was the first Hispanic mechanic. He was an avid soccer lover & player; he played soccer up until he was 66 years old. Santo played soccer for the Alley Cats, Spanish American Club, Italian American Club and many other groups as well. Most of all, Santo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Santo is survived by his loving wife, Ana Cruz; daughters, Caroline (Jaysen) Barquero Vollertsen & Sinai Barquero; son, Wyatt Barquero; sisters, Rosie Marín Barquero & Ana Mireya Barquero Hernandez; grandchildren, Ryan Vollertsen, Alá Wilson, Amun Wilson and Calen Vollertsen; and many loving family members in Costa Rica. Santo was predeceased by his brother, William Barquero Hernandez.
Calling hours for Santo will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, beginning at 10 am at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12 noon with Fr. Juanito Asprec presiding. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Truax Road, Amsterdam.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Santo’s memory may be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html, select “In memory of someone’s life”.
