Cheraw —Funeral services for JC (Jay) Hooks, 61, of Cheraw, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. David Spires. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Hooks, husband of Gail Scott Hooks, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Born in Mullins, SC, he was the son of the late Richard Bright Hooks and Nancy Tempie Floyd Hooks. He worked 33 years for HARSCO Track Technology formerly known as Fairmount-Tamper of Cayce/West Columbia. He has lived in Cheraw for the past 9 years, formerly of West Columbia. Surviving are his wife, Gail Scott Hooks of Cheraw; son Richard Matthew-David Hooks of West Columbia; step-son, David Knox (Erika) of Vero Beach, FL; daughters, Paula Elaine Hooks of Beaufort and Makaylah Cynthia Scott of Cheraw; step-daughters, Michelle Knox and Kelly Scott both of Cheraw; grandchildren, Shaun Knox, Christian Smith, Savannah Rose Hooks and Cameron Smith; sisters, Martha Cook of Norfolk, VA, Ottie Yarborough (Derrell) of West Columbia, Pauline Green of Lexington and Nancy Backman (Bruce) of Cayce. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elinor Murphy Hooks.
