James C. Bono
April 16th, 1949 - September 1st, 2021
James [Jim] Bono passed away on Wednesday September 1st after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara, his daughters Jaime Hope [John] and Rachel Gray [Jeff] and 6 grandchildren. He was born on April 16, 1949 in Ilion NY to the late Samuel and Catherine Bono, and grew up in nearby Frankfort in upstate New York. Jim graduated from Syracuse University in 1971 and moved to St Petersburg, Florida in 1981 where he and Barbara raised their family. As empty nesters, they moved to Clearwater but after retirement decided to relocate to the Atlantic side of the state to enjoy the ocean – and be closer to the kids and grandkids! He loved to sit on the balcony to enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean waves and to watch some of the many rocket launches from the Kennedy Space Center launch pad. Jim had many interests including history, science, aerospace and travel but his favorite hobby was technology and electronics. He spent many hours wiring, connecting and maintaining a network of ‘toys’ throughout the house – computers, televisions, audio systems, and other smart devices/applications. The nests of wires may never be untangled or understood! He passed his love of technology and electronic tools to his daughters to help them become strong, independent adults. He loved to travel, especially on cruises, visiting new and different ports of call throughout Europe & the Mediterranean, Alaska, and the Caribbean. He loved to explore new towns, customs, cultures and especially the food! A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic FL on Monday September 13 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Arnold Palmer Hospital – Pediatric Oncology or to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.
