September 23rd, 1938 - March 30th, 2009
HARKINS, James F., 70, of Tampa, FL passed away Monday, March 30, 2009. He was born in Sharon, CT, grew up in Dover Plains, NY and moved to FL in 1999. James served in the Navy, and later became the treasurer for the veteran association that served aboard the USS John W. Weeks DD-701. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church in Tampa and a 4th degree, as well as, former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #12956. James served as the Vice President for the State of Florida Ancient Order of Hibernians. He retired from IBM after 30 years and worked another 10 years for GTE/Verizon. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Angela Rita; two sons, Thomas of Austin, TX and Edward and his wife, Megan of Indialantic, FL; grandchildren, Chris and Carla (Harkins) Hadden and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
