James H. "Jim" Sojourner, Jr., 83, of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida died September 16, 2014. He was born June 1, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of late Louise and Harold Sojourner and had three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 63 years. Their legacy was four children and eight grandchildren. In 1949, Jim joined the Air Force out of high school where he excelled in electronics. In 1955, Jim started his career at RCA and Pan Am providing engineering support for the space program. He always felt privileged to have participated and witnessed the Atlas, Apollo, Delta, and Shuttle missions. In 1993, he retired from CSR as Engineering Manager of Telemetry to work on his golf game. Jim served on the City Council, as City Commissioner, and on the Civil Service Board. He was also one of the early members of the IHB Volunteer Fire Department. He loved all sports, serving as the President of the IHB little league in 1968 and as the assistant manager for the South Brevard Beaches Midget Football Association Chiefs in 1977. In 1979-1980, he was an assistant football coach for the JV squad at Melbourne Central Catholic and in 1981 as assistant JV football coach for Satellite High School. Jim will be laid to rest in in a private service in Denmark, South Carolina on Saturday, September 20. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the IHB Volunteer Fire Department.
