Jeffrey Scott Briggs

It is with great sadness that the family of Jeffrey S. Briggs announces his passing on June 15, 2017 after his long battle with respiratory and heart conditions. Jeffrey, the youngest of 3 brothers, David Briggs and Steve Briggs, son of Arthur and Phyllis Briggs, was born on May 20th, 1950, in Portland, Oregon. Growing up catholic, during Jeff’s youth, he served as an altar boy at Sunday Mass, played football, basketball, and ran track, graduating from Sammamish High School in 1968. Jeff continued on to Puget Sound Community College for 2 years studying physical education, before being drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War in 1969. Jeff flew in Vietnam as a Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator until 1972 on “Search & Destroy” missions and received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor as well as several other Air Medals from the United States Army. Soon after returning home, Jeff married Mary G. Cooke and was offered his dream career of flying with Columbia Helicopters and Interfor Industries in Vancouver BC, Canada as Chief Pilot and Operations Manager. Jeff loved his career and was recognized for his many achievements of having over 30,000 flight hours of precision flying helicopters in the logging industry, heavy lifting relocations, fighting fires and even behind the scenes of some of Hollywood’s blockbuster hits. After retirement Jeff was able to enjoy his favorite hobbies like golfing, boating, camping and trips to the Oregon Coast fishing and crabbing with his son and daughter. Jeff lived a full life, worked hard - played hard, had a great sense of humor and deeply loved his family and grandchildren with every part of his soul. He is survived by Mary Briggs; his children and their spouses Marissa Briggs-Lybarger and Scott Briggs; Ryan Lybarger; Erin Haynes-Briggs; Brother David Briggs; 7 grandchildren and his precious dog and companion, Bernardo. His father and mother, Arthur & Phyllis Briggs and Brothers Steve and Tommy Briggs, preceded Jeff in death. Jeffrey S. Briggs funeral service is on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 10:30-11AM at Willamette National Cemetery 8098 SE 112th, Portland Oregon 97266.
