Jerry Davis
May 20th, 1944 - October 16th, 2020
Jerry Brian Davis, a proud husband, father, brother, grandfather and fisherman died on October 16, 2020. Jerry was born in Oregon City, OR to Lucille & James Davis on May 20, 1944 and was raised in Gaston, OR. He loved playing football and baseball growing up, which included being a semi-pro catcher while still in high school. After graduating from high school in 1963, Jerry enlisted in the Navy and had also served in the Navy Reserves while in high school. He was a proud SeaBee and served the United States in California, Guam and Vietnam and also played on the Navy Marine football team. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Portland Community College earning a degree in Construction Technology. This led him to a long career in the construction field, eventually forming his own remodeling company which he ran until his retirement. In 1970, Jerry married Merilyn Foster and they had 3 sons to complete their family. Jerry's love of sports ran over into his boys and he loved watching them excel all the way through college football with two sons playing at Boise State and one playing at Idaho State. He then enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports and activities. Jerry and Merilyn were married for over 50 years and created homes in Idaho, Montana and Oregon while following Jerry's construction career. Jerry was a passionate outdoorsman and much like his own father and mother, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jerry made sure to pass this knowledge and passion for the outdoors on to his 3 sons and grandchildren. Even in his later years, Jerry would go out with Merilyn for a picnic at the lake where they would each toss a line in the water. Jerry is preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife, Merilyn; his sons Brian & Angela Davis (Claire, Austin, Grace, Zane), Aaron & Courtnie Davis (Alex & Haylee, Ryan & Madi, Cayson), Christopher & Kerry Davis (Tyler, Toby) and his special great-granddaughter Meah. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Stevens. The funeral service for Jerry will be held on November 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Williamette National Cemetary with military honors.
