Lexington, Kentucky - Jocelyn Renee Douglas, age 52, wife of John Simms Douglas, died at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital Saturday, July 6, 2024. Jocelyn was born August 15, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late John Martin Yurek and Luanne Roggatz Yurek. Jocelyn was raised by Timothy Lawrence Burke and Luanne Roggatz Burke. Jocelyn was a devoted wife and mother, and radiated kindness to everyone she encountered.
Jocelyn was a graduate of Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois and received her Cosmetology degree from the Cannella School of Hair Design in Chicago. Jocelyn married her husband, John Douglas, in 1996 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Jocelyn’s passions were reading, quilting and crocheting along with traveling to new locations near water. Jocelyn and John both learned to ski on their honeymoon which led to many stories throughout their lives together. She dedicated herself to raising her only son, John Duncan Douglas, whom she adored and supported unceasingly. She instilled in him the values of cherishing family above all; that life’s true richness lies in meaningful relationships and the impact we have on others; and to embody compassion and kindness in every aspect of life.
Some of Jocelyn’s most treasured memories were from the times spent with her family from back home in Illinois. Their shared love for silliness, playfulness, and laughter created a bond that transcended Jocelyn’s usual distance from them in Kentucky. Whether at home, on outings, or gathered for special occasions, their camaraderie and shared jokes brought warmth and happiness to every moment they spent together.
Jocelyn was a member of the Crestwood Christian Church in Lexington.
Jocelyn is survived by her husband of 28 years, John; a son John Duncan Douglas (Joanna Louise); a brother Martin John Yurek, a sister Valerie Ann Yurek Sorenson and a brother Daniel Spencer Burke (Teresa); sister in law, Cynthia Douglas Rorer; nieces Mary Ella Rorer and Jackie Frye; nephews, Gunnar Sorenson and Erik Sorenson.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be determined and published by the family at a later date.
