John Larry Porter, also known as "Buck" or "Buster", died on Monday, July 25th, at the age of 82. He was born in West Columbia, SC to the late John Vande and Agnes Senn Porter. Surviving is his widow, Clara Wingard Porter of the home; daughters, Karen Nash (Ray) of Ridgeville and Vanessa Gause(Andy) of Irmo; a stepson, Rocky Sease (Melissa) of Townsend, GA; Stepdaughters, Carol Oglesby (Burch) of St. Augustine, FL and Pamela Brunson of Lexington, SC; sisters, Ruth Bennett (Tommy) of Lexington, SC and Phyllis Beheler (Dwight) of Gilbert; a brother, Mark Porter (Janet) of Leesville ; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Judy S. Porter of Lexington. Mr. Porter graduated from Brookland-Cayce High school and Spartanburg Methodist College. He also attended The University of South Carolina and Midlands Tech. He retired from Buford Goff and Associates after 28 years, where he was employed as a HVAC Designer. He was also an active member of the Pineview Ruritan Club. Funeral Services will be held at 3pm Thursday, July 28th, at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Columbia, SC with Pastor David Pfeiffer officiating. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as Active Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the church council. The Family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 27th from 6-8 p.m. at Thompsons Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2920 Pella Ave, West Columbia, SC 29170.
