Kenneth Earl Marcy

Kenneth Earl Marcy (68) of Cheyenne , Wyoming, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at Pathways Inpatient Care Center in Fort Collins, Colorado surrounded by his loving children.

Ken was born August 10, 1955, in Lincoln, NE, the only son of Harry Kenneth and Catherine Marie (Ballou) Marcy. He grew up farming and helping with his father’s quarter horse racing stables at their family farm just outside of Ashland, NE. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1973 and met his loving wife, Karen C. Schulz, in Cheyenne, WY through mutual friends in 1975. They married on September 3, 1977, in Woodworth, ND followed by the wedding reception at Karen’s family farm.

Ken came to Cheyenne as heavy equipment and crane operator for Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). He spontaneously left UPRR on a Christmas eve somewhere in Wyoming after cleaning up a huge derailment in a crazy blizzard determined to find a job that would keep him closer to home and his growing family. Ken was hired by FE Warren AFB as a contractor and was their first certified welder to work on and weld on the missiles and silos. He later worked and became a partner at D’s 4 Wheel Drive in Cheyenne which lasted decades (mid-1980s to 2008). Ken’s office at D’s was known as a place where people came after work to kick up their feet, socialize and get some ‘advice’ on their lives and vehicles. Ken separated from D’s in 2008 due to health conditions. In his ‘retirement years,’ Ken operated heavy equipment for his close friends, which eventually got him to start his own excavation business because he loved being a part of everyone’s project.

While he was semi-retired, Ken and Karen regularly traveled all around to visit old friends and family in various states, or they would go to new ‘warmer’ places in the winter months. Ken had the personality of being able to go anywhere and make lifelong friends. When they weren’t traveling, Ken and Karen would spend time with their grandkids, ride motorcycle, and socialize with their close friends. Ken lost Karen on December 21, 2020, from her long fight of carcinoid cancer.

Ken was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in October of 2023. He fought an unbelievable fight with close friends and family supporting him along the way. He lived a life that may have been too short, but he lived it to the fullest with lots of laughs and unforgettable memories. If you met him once, you would remember him, and he too would remember you, and for that, he had an immeasurable number of friends.

Before leaving us, Ken filled his most recent days with a trip of a lifetime to Argentina with his son, beach trips to Belize visiting his brother-in-law, and to San Diego and Boston with his children and grandchildren. He loved to operate heavy equipment, shoot sporting clays, play golf, bird hunt, ride his side-by-side, help his children with their many projects, and spend time with his grandkids who he loved immensely. He was a powerful force of life; he lived hard, played hard and his love was undeniable. Kenny will always be loved, never forgotten, and forever missed.

Ken is survived by his children, James (Dr. Rebecca) Marcy of Cheyenne and Sarah (Matt) Jacobson of Torrington; six grandchildren, Magdelana, Adelynn, Kaia, Jadah, Colton, and Harrison (HK), his mother, Catherine M. Marcy; 3 siblings, Jean (Sandy) Kirkpatrick, Janis Marcy, Judy Squire; many nephews and nieces, and several great nephews/nieces.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Schulz) Marcy, and father, Harry ‘HK’ Marcy.
