Laurie B. Compton
October 5th, 1959 - September 14th, 2015
Laurie Ann Beebe Compton died at age 55 in her home in Olympia, Washington early Monday morning, September 14, 2015, succumbing to the effects of cancer. She is survived by her husband, Dan Compton; her five children, Merri Compton, Heather Washburn, Christopher Compton, Adrienne Compton, and Alyssa Compton; and by one grandchild, Seth Washburn. She is also survived by her mother, Regina A. Beebe; and three siblings, Brenda Pope, Debbie Frisby, and Keith Beebe. She is preceded in death by her father, Russel Robert Beebe. Laurie was born on October 5, 1959 in Rexburg, Idaho where she was raised in a country setting. As she grew up, she developed a talent for nurturing animals and a passion for learning. She stayed in Rexburg until she transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s in English Literature. It was at BYU that she met and was married to the love of her life, Dan Compton, on August 23, 1985 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple for time and all eternity. Just this past summer, they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. After spending five years in Utah, Laurie and Dan spent 10 years of their married life in Cameron Park, California, and then relocated to Olympia, where they have lived for the past 15 years. Throughout the years, Laurie devoted most of her time and talents to nurturing and loving children. In addition to raising her own five children, Laurie spent years teaching children in her church, volunteering in schools, and was an active participant in all her children’s extracurricular activities. Although she never played any musical instruments herself, she loved music, and emphasized the power of music as a teaching tool whether it was through fun nursery rhymes or spiritual hymns. She was also a talented seamstress, and for an embarrassingly long time, her children wore matching outfits every Sunday to church; however, they always had the best Halloween costumes. Her artistic eye extended to floral arrangements as well. She has made arrangements for weddings, corsages for dances, and simply brought beauty to her own home for years through her talent. She will be greatly missed. Please leave memories of Laurie or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
