Lillian Genevive Leighton (nee MacNeil) passed away in Sun City, Florida on July 27 2021 at 1:07am. She was born June 14,1931. Lillian is predeceased by her devoted husband James (Jim) Leighton and her treasured son Paul Leighton. She was a former parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City, Florida. Lillian was born educated in Antigonish Nova Scotia,Canada. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Angus MacNeil and Anna Agnes MacNeil. Lillian continued her pursuit of a career in nursing and graduated as a R.N. from St. Martha School of Nursing, class of 1954. Upon graduation she began her career in Boston, MA. It was there she met Jim Leighton and they were married. Lillian and Jim travelled across many states where she always kept active with her nursing career while they always had the dream of retiring in Florida which they eventually did. Lillian was the oldest sibling in a family of seven. She was always the most loving and devoted sister any family would love to call their own. Lillian was predeceased by a sister,Sarah (MacNeil) Cameron of Guelph Ont. Canada. A brother,Joseph MacNeil of Guelph Ont. Canada,a sister Anne (Mac Neil) Tash of Springfield, Ma. and her youngest brother John (Johnny) MacNeil and his wife Margaret (Peggy) of Grand Island New York. Lillian is survived by a sister Mary (Mac Neil) Rosch and her son Sean Rosch of Waterloo Ontario. Canada. A brother,Edward (Eddie) and his wife Yvonne MacNeil and their daughters Michele and Monique, of Guelph, Ontario,Canada. A special thank you to Lillian's niece Karen (Tash) Gruska who was kind enough to help with my sister's care while she ill. We would also like to thank Dr. Eric Goldenberg and the EMT's at South Bay hospital. Friend and caregiver Carla from Hospice, Lucinda and Natalie and all the nurses and cargivers from Cyprus Creek assisted living. Lillians attorneys, Steven Prouss and Richard Wheeler. Jeff Stephanz (Prince of Peace Catholic Church), and Amee Wojciechowski (Sun City Funeral Home). A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
