Manuel “Jimbo” Abeyta July 20, 1939 – November 28, 2020 Manuel “Jimbo” Abeyta, 81, departed this life November 28, 2020 in Lakewood Co. Jimbo was born July 20, 1939 in Trinchera, Colorado to the union of Manuel and Abundia Abeyta. He then moved to Pueblo, C0 where he grew up. Jimbo served in Marine Reserves from 1958 – 1964. He then met and married his wife, Alice and they moved to Denver, Co. Where he lived until his death. He is preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and great grandson Aiden Seeley. He welcomed his daughter, Theresa Rivera, as she departed this life shortly after his death. He is survived by his children; Patricia (Doug) Holley, Manuel (Liz) Abeyta Jr., Vincent (Kim) Abeyta, Mark (Mary) Abeyta, Mathew (Heather) Abeyta, Rachel Abeyta, Adam (Berna) Abeyta, Daniel Abeyta, and Jesse Abeyta. Jimbo is also survived by 33 grandchildren & 55 great-grandchildren. His family is one of his proudest accomplishments and he loved time spent with them. He especially enjoyed the times the sun was shining and he could stay warm as he watched the interactions of his family. Another pastime he enjoyed was reading and in the warmer months you would find him sitting in the sun, his shades on, with a book in his hands. He was a huge fan of Colorado Rockies but he enjoyed watching all sports, even golf. When he was younger he also loved to participate in all types of sport activities and always talked about how fast he can run and jump (over cars). One of the fondest memories of him was when he would pull out his guitar and sing silly songs which all us kids really enjoyed. He was also quite the story teller especially the spooky ones. In 2011 Jimbo was diagnosed with a rare disease called Occulopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD). This disease affected muscles in his eyes, throat, hips, stomach and lungs. Which made it impossible to eat, drink, walk, & talk but even though he was unable to do many of those things he had a positive attitude. Over the last few years of his life he was hospitalized for long periods of time. During all his hospitalizations he always made sure to try to make every staff member he came in contact with laugh. If they didn’t laugh at his jokes he would just keep trying. It got to be where staff would come say hi even if they weren’t caring for him. Although he really didn’t enjoy the hospital he did enjoy the one on one time with his granddaughter, Angelica, who helped care for him. He loved to try & shock her with his tales of growing up. Especially the ones about meeting her grandmother, Alice. Services will be December 18, 2020 at his home church, St Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church 3001 W. Ohio Ave, Denver, CO 80219. 9:00 a.m. Viewing, 9:30a.m. Rosary, 10:00 am Mass.
