Mrs. Margaret M. Rupert, 96, of Gloversville, passed away February 1, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side. Born September 5, 1917 in Fonda, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Healey Champagne. Margaret was educated in Gloversville schools and employed as accounts payable supervisor for over 35 years at Grandoe Corp. Following her retirement there, she was office manager at Davis Cash Register in Gloversville until the age of 75. A devoted Roman Catholic, Margaret was a very active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Sisters of The Holy Spirit. She was also a member of the Adult Faith Formation Group and was a bingo volunteer for 17 years. Margaret volunteered as a member of the Wells House Auxiliary and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a former officer. Margaret was a wonderful cook and continued until only recently. She was the designated hostess for many family meals and special occasions. Over thirty years ago, she and her sisters organized the annual Champagne family reunion attended by 50-100 family members each year. Many memories and songs were shared. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her children; Mary Rupert Knapik of Gloversville and Duane F. Rupert Sandra of Florence, S. Carolina. She is also survived by three sisters; Eileen Nieuwboer of Johnstown, Mary Bottisti of Tribes Hill and Jean DesJardins Leopold of Johnstown .Margaret leaves eight dear grandchildren: Emery Otruba, Eric Otruba, Evan Otruba, Gary Knapik, Jason Knapik, Stacy Knapik Fidrych, Sally Rupert Mingarelli and Max Rupert. Additional survivors include two great grandchildren; John Otruba and Elizabeth Otruba, several nieces , nephews and her beloved cat Chloe. She was pre-deceased by her husband Duane F. Rupert in 1993, her daughter Patricia Ann Otruba and her brothers; Francis, William and Malcolm Champagne and a sister Vivian McClary. A prayer service will be held 9:15 am Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. At 10 am a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Church of The Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville, with The Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Monday February 3, 2014 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Church.
