Mary Theresa Gullo died Sunday, December 19th with her family by her side. She was 91. Mrs. Gullo was born Mary Theresa Burke on June 3rd, 1930 in Manhattan. The youngest of three children, she was known as ‘Dolly’ her entire life for being so small at birth. As a young woman, she attended Hunter College in New York City and, for a time, worked at Pan Am Airlines, a job that enabled her to travel to many parts of the world. In 1964 she married Henry C. Gullo and moved to Albany NY where she raised her three sons and worked as an accountant for the state of New York. She was a patient, rock steady presence throughout the lives of her children. In 2000 she relocated to Lexington KY to be near one of her sons, her daughter in law, and three grandchildren. For the next 21 years she was at their table, good naturedly playing board games, calmly cutting vegetables, and stubbornly doing the dishes. Mary was living brightly and independently until the day she passed. Her smile and laugh could fill a room, and her spirit will be with us forever. She is survived by her three sons, Chris, Geoff, and Bill; her three loving daughters in law; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) How You Can Help | American Civil Liberties Union (aclu.org) Services for Mrs. Gullo will be at a later date.
