Mattie L. Cox

COX, Mattie Leoner, 94, of New Port Richey, Florida passed away December 9, 2018. She was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. At the age of 13, she moved to Arkansas in a covered wagon with her family. After getting married at 17, Mattie and Willard moved to Michigan where they started their family. They finally retired and moved to Florida in the 80’s. Mattie loved going to church, gardening, keeping a clean house and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking and hosting parties. Mattie is preceded in death by her loving husband Willard, married just shy of 65 years. She is survived by sons, Russell H. Cox and his wife Judy, Earnest David Cox and his wife Bonnie, Alfred Edward Cox and his girlfriend Donnete, Rickey R. Cox and his wife Toni, and Dwain Allen Cox and his wife Valerie; daughter, Leona Wandafay Brooks and her husband Leonard MacFarlane; 11 grandchildren, Bob, Charles, Gloria, Penny, Tom, Belinda, Rick, Jennifer, Lucus, Tera and Nicholas; 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Loyless Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Elfers. Family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service. A Graveside Service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens following the church service. Words of comfort may be expressed for Mattie’s family by clicking “Share a Memory”.
