Mildred Kampf Bailey
October 28th, 2013
Mildred Kampf Bailey of North St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully with loving family by her side, October 28, 2013, at the Maplewood Care Center, as the result of a lengthy, courageous battle with multiple sclerosis and complications from that disease. Millie was born June 2, 1931, in a sod house on the family homestead in Hill County near Laredo, Montana. She was the 12th of 13 children born to German-Russian immigrant parents, Samuel and Christina Boschee Kampf. When she was six years old, Millie and her family moved to Havre after the death of her father. She attended school in town and graduated from Havre High School in 1949. As a young woman, Millie worked at Buttrey’s Department Store as a sales associate in the clothing department. On January 26, 1957, she married Gerald Duane Bailey. Millie and Jerry moved to Great Falls, Montana, where they started their family. In 1962, they moved to Minnesota and eventually settled in North St. Paul where they raised their family. Millie enjoyed raising her family, housekeeping, and was known for her excellent cooking and entertaining, especially during the holidays. On Saturday nights, Millie and Jerry could often be found dancing at the local VFW or the American Legion. Millie worked at a Drug Store in downtown North St. Paul for over 20 years. Upon her retirement, Mille and Jerry liked to travel, taking several trips out West returning to Havre for class reunions and to visit with relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers (Oscar, John, Art, Bill, Sam, Ben), and four sisters (Lavina, Emily, Lila, Laura). She is survived by her children Craig, Duane (Marilee), and Deborah; three grandchildren; along with her brothers, Ted and Emil Kampf; many nieces and nephews; and step-children Michael (Sandy) and Mark, and six step-grandchildren. Services will be held Monday, November 4, 2013, with a visitation at 10:00a.m. and funeral service at 11:00a.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2499 North Helen Street, North St. Paul, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Mahtomedi. In lieu of flowers, donations in Millie’s memory are suggested to the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Memorial donations can be addressed to Mildred Kampf Bailey in care of Sandburg Funeral Home, 2593 E. 7th Avenue, North St. Paul, MN, 55109.
