Natalie Jane Scates, 35, mother of Alston Scates, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022. She was born on September 25, 1987, in Versailles, Kentucky to Jeff and Theresa Scates. Natalie was truly one of a kind, a unique wildflower living among us. Her stories were always filled with adventure. She loved her family with a fierce passion and didn’t want to miss a moment in her son’s life. She loved art, music, horse racing with “B”, and long Bluegrass sunsets. Natalie was a compassionate and loving mother to her son whom she considered her "entire world". Her career was focused on Social Work, and dedicated her life to helping others. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Versailles, KY, and a graduate of Lexington Christian Academy, The University of Kentucky (BS in Anthropology) and Asbury University (MA in Social Work). In addition to her son and parents, those left to cherish her memory include her grandmother, Jane Scates; brothers David (Liz) Scates and Robert (Brooke) Scates; sister, Nicole (John) Nickels; and niece and nephew Mila and Deaton Nickels. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 1:30PM at Southland Christian Church (Building A Chapel), Nicholasville, with Pastor Greg Chandler officiating. Visitation will start at 10:30 AM until the time of service. Graveside service will follow at 2:30PM at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Nicholasville. Serving as casket bearers are, David Scates, Robert Scates, John Nickels, Bentley Roberts, Brad Kerkhoff, Jed Kerkhoff, and Justin Barrier In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alston Scates Educational Funds at First Southern National Bank.
