Olive V. O'Dell
February 11th, 2013
Olive V. O’Dell Olive O’Dell passed away gently on February 11, 2013 at the age of 87. Born in Birmingham, England, Olive came to the United States in 1946 to marry her childhood crush, Ernest. She became a citizen in 1952, but never gave up her love of all things British---the Queen and Royalty memorabilia, crumpets and tea (especially at the Empress), Cadbury flakes, the Beatles, and marmite. Long after she needed its contents, she continued to carry her handbag over her arm. After all, the Queen never appears in public without hers. In the past few years, Olive’s mind became very confused due to severe dementia and PTSD suffered as a result of wartime experiences in the Blitz of London during World War II. In spite of this affliction, during those periods of times when the clouds lifted and her mind cleared, she never failed to be amazed and delighted at the size of the dynasty she founded. She was thrilled to see pictures and proud to hear stories of exploits of all her grandchildren. Olive is survived by four children: Carol O’Dell (Chris Herold), Gary O’Dell (Chanipek), Jan Wilson (Michael) and Howard O’Dell (Ellen). She also has 11 grandchildren, Shelley, Patrick, Vanessa, Kirk, Justin, Nicki, Robyn, Raelyn, Cori, Aurelia, and Austin; as well as two great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Kaeleigh. We will miss you Mom, but still see your influences in ourselves and your grandchildren. You turned us into a family of avid readers, musical fans, gardeners and cutthroat canasta players. Less than three years ago, you were still our best resource for crossword puzzles. We could complete them faster with your assistance than we ever manage alone. Our family wishes to thank Zeny Ravancho and the wonderful staff at her Adult Family Home for the loving and caring assistance Ninny received in her last years. We couldn’t have managed without them. At Mom’s request, there will be no local services. Instead she will be laid to rest beside our father, Ernie, in Golden Gate Military Cemetery in San Bruno, California. Please leave memories of Olive or condolences for the family in the Guestbook below.
