Paul Barringer Houston, Jr., 65, died October 14, 2013 at his home in Charlotte. "Barry," as he was known to family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Charlotte. He was born September 13, 1948 to the late Marian Smith Houston and Paul B. Houston, Sr. He had no siblings. Mr. Houston was a graduate of Myers Park High School and was a high school and college musician. As a child, he was a member of the Charlotte Drum and Bugle Corps. His solitary photo in uniform appeared on the front page of the November 26, 1963 edition of the Charlotte Observer when the corps participated in the military mass for President John F. Kennedy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Charlotte. Barry served in the North Carolina National Guard. He grew up as a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church. Mr. Houston is survived by his cousins, Beverly T. Beal of Lenoir, David J. Beal of Mt. Airy and Katherine Smith Williams of Worthington, Ohio. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte on Thursday, November 14 at 11:00 am.
