Paul Richard Johnston
December 1st, 1952 - February 8th, 2014
Paul R Johnston, age 61, was born 12-1-1952 in Portland, Oregon, to Richard and Loraine (Thiele) Johnston. He died suddenly in his home of an apparent heart attack on 2-8-14. He grew up in Canby and Oregon City. He was on the swim team and played drums while in high school and graduated from Oregon City High School in 1970. He attended Oregon State University and enlisted in the US Army, serving from 1972 to 1975 in Germany. He enjoyed ice skating and turned his hobby into a job when he was Asst Manager at Lloyd Center Ice Chalet. For the past many years he was a Tri-met bus driver and truly loved his job. He loved connecting with his passengers. Paul was an intensely private person and also intensely generous. He held a strong faith in God and was a member of First Baptist church in Portland. He was a huge C.S. Lewis fan, reading every book possible. Paul is survived by his brother Jeff (Pam) of Eugene, sister Leslie (Michael) Pranger of Hillsboro, nephew Adam Pranger of Hillsboro, nieces Heather (Bodey) De Nault of Ridgefield, WA, Rachel Pranger of Beaverton and Meghan Pranger of Hillsboro, cousins Edith Ehmann of Portland, Melissa West of Vancouver, Janet Ehmann of Hillsboro, step-nephew Josh (Stephanie) Berrian of Milwaukee, WI, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Paul was a lifelong learner and generous to many charities. He absolutely loved snow and thunderstorms and they were often the topic of conversation. He would have loved the weekend snowstorm that he missed when he died. He would have also been glued to the ice-skating coverage of the winter Olympics. Memorials may be sent to OPB, the American Heart Assn, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service is planned for 3-7-14 at 10 am at First Baptist church in Portland. Interment at Willamette National Cemetery immediately following the service at noon on 3-7. Service Information
