Roy Lee Witt Roy* Lee Witt, was born June 24, 1955 at 3:12 am in Oakland, California. Roy had a massive stroke while in the hospital on June 16, 2018 which prevented him from waking up. He passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence at 9:00 pm on his birthday, June 24, 2018. He was the 8th of 11 children born to Lucile (Watts) and Deacon Willie Witt. Growing up in Oakland, Roy fished with friends and played football in school which taught him to be a life-long learner. He began working at an early age and managed several McDonald’s stores while in school. He eventually followed his love to Washington where he achieved his lifelong dream and joined the Seattle Fire Department. Karen and Roy met while taking a Christian Faith Class at Tacoma Christian Center taught by Pastor Terry L. Harris. As a Spirit hungry man, Roy had asked Pastor if someone could take notes for him on the days he would miss due to his responsibilities as a firefighter and that’s where the start of a life long partnership began. Roy and Karen created a blended household and a beautiful family which produced four successful young men from their 27years together. As an Ordained Deacon, Roy loved being in church and made sure to attend when traveling and also watchedevangelists on tv such as Jesse Duplantis of New Orleans and TD Jakes to name some of his favorites. He was a devoted deacon and studied diligently to pass the ordination test which was a glorious honor and accomplishment to him! For many years Karen and Roy served in church leadership and faithfully supervised the Altar Call Ministry with Roy’s gifted teaching and Karen’s administrating skills it was a good team- a real good team. They also spent three summers serving in Mexico with Baja Christian Ministries training youth leaders in evangelism and building houses. Destined to be a firefighter, Roy was passionate about patient care and looked out for those in the community that were vulnerable or less fortunate such as senior citizens, children, immigrants, who needed help being familiarized in American culture, or just a hungry person on the corner asking for help. His heart to help people shone in his diligence and dedication towards his studies to become an EMT and through the relentless hours to be certain nothing in the research of his duties was missed. Whether riding in the medic units or driving fire engines throughout the City of Seattle, Roy was ready with a plan of action. Over his 38 years of service and being one of the first black fire fighters in Seattle, Roy was a role model and true example of excellence. His home stations were 27’s, 33’s and 26’s Roy started his business, Breath For Life CPR in 1995. It grew over the years to touch many lives in the US and other countries as he used his teachings to paint pictures with words in such a way that his students could actually see and grasp what he was describing. Whether it was how breath becomes life or how HIV attacks in the body, Roy was passionate to help you see and understand. Roy was always amazed by how his teachings touched people, It was truly a gift which allowed him and his family to travel to places such as Spain, Puerto Rico, and England. Aside from the Fire Department and CPR classes, Roy enjoyed spending his leisure time doing yard work finishing the day with a view of the Puget Sound and a cold iced tea; spending time laughing and joking with his wife and sons, or watching old Westerns, cartoons or the Discovery Channel and eventually fall asleep on the couch. Severely injured at a fire response in August, 2016, Roy’s health began to decline and he was unable to continue the career he loved so much. Roy was preceded to heaven by his father, Deacon Willie Witt, his mother, Lucile Witt; his brothers, Willie Witt, Jr and Joseph Witt. He leaves behind to celebrate his life, his wife of 27 years as of today, Karen Witt and their sons by birth and in heart, Sean-Michael V Davis, DeShawn Lee Witt, Jonathon Chaney Raye Witt and Harold V. Sanders II: his sisters, Willene Davis (France), Lucinda Bagley, Frances Yamada (Ken), Betty Jefferson (Clarence) and Mary Stewart. Roy has many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, coworkers and customers who love and will miss him dearly.
