After attending training in Omaha, Nebraska, Ruth began her career with the Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. There she met her soulmate, Robert Arnold Koenig, who was also stationed there with the Navy. They were married on June 14, 1969, and enjoyed a very loving partnership for 49 years. Ruth worked at the Federal Center in Lakewood after they moved to Colorado. She enjoyed many years and made countless friends during her career. After retirement, Ruth and Bob continued to enjoy many adventures with friends and family. They loved to travel and visited many countries and enjoyed spending time with family and friends on all their many trips. Robert passed away July 16, 2018, after a long battle with multiple systems atrophy. Ruth was his sole caregiver and companion during his illness. Their life together was an example of pure love. Ruth was a very special, tough, caring lady. She was always ready to give a helping hand. No request was too great or frivolous. She always took the time to have meaningful conversations with everyone. Her family and many friends will miss her greatly. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Bertha Schurman, her husband, Robert Koenig, brother-in-law, Ed Iversen, and sister-in-law, Karen Schurman. Ruth is survived by 4 brothers, Melvin (Chae), John, Ray (Shari), Michael (Delores) , all Schurman’s, 3 sisters, (Erma) Cathy (Jerry) Burnes, Mary Iversen, Rita (Richard) Reil, 2 sisters-in-laws, Pam(Stan) Johnson, Lori (Van) Moreau and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Patrick Burnes, Tim Cox, Gregory Iversen, David Iversen, Matthew Reil, Daniel Schurman, Andrew Schurman, and Lyle Freerksen. We know her speedy flight to heaven to unite with her beloved Bob was filled with happiness. Rest in peace and enjoy eternity. Ruth, we will all miss you every day until we meet again.
