Butch Hursey passed away October 26, 2020. Born in Durham, NC, he was a son of the late Sidney Allen Hursey, Sr. and Ruth Ferrell Hursey. Butch was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who has the privilege of knowing him. A 1961 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School, Butch enjoyed fishing, (or as he referred to it, “catching”) and golfing, and never met a man he didn’t know. Butch owned “Cowboy’s Auction House” in Gaston, and had retired from Richland County Public Works after 19 years of service. He was the youngest Building Inspector for the City of Cayce, having taken on that job at age 19. Butch was always available to help anyone, and would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. Butch is survived by his children; daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Sawvell (John) of Columbia; sons, Sidney Allen “Bubba” Hursey, III (Debra Elaine) of Wagener,SC, William Jeffery “Jeff” Hursey (Tena) of Pekin, Indiana, Steven Wayne Hursey (Brenda) of Gaston, Allen Carroll Hursey of West Columbia, Robert Lee Hursey (Amanda) of Pelion; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Bennett (Bobby) of Durham, NC. In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by his wife, Carol J. Hursey. The family would like to thank the staff of Agape Hospice for their tender care of Butch.
