Susan Irene Kane
March 25th, 1948 - December 24th, 2016
Susan Irene (Stanton) Kane was born on March 25, 1948 in Port Chester, NY to Edward and Sydney Stanton. She grew up in Port Chester, and attended Northwestern University in Illinois. She traveled extensively in Europe and Israel, and spent 9 years living in England. She married David Michael Kane in 1974, and they had two daughters, Sarah and Hannah, who were raised in Seattle. Susan was a thoughtful, caring, empathetic friend, sister, mother, and grandmother. She was generous and gentle, a good listener, never one to hold a grudge. She had a wonderful sense of humor—quick with a clever pun, and delighted to make others around her smile. Susan was a talented musician, singing with the acclaimed Seattle Pro-Musica choir for 18 years. She was also an avid reader, belonging to a book club for 30 years. Passionate about art and art history, she worked at an art gallery while living in London and had served as a volunteer docent at the Frye Art Museum since September of 2013. She was also a devoted sports fan with particular affection for the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks. She worked as a legal secretary for several Seattle law firms including most recently Davis, Wright, Tremaine. Susan died peacefully on December 24, 2016, after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor seven weeks prior. Her beloved sister Hilary was at her side. She is survived by her daughters Sarah Chessman (Rick), Hannah Kane (Chris); granddaughter, Jadyn; sisters Lynn Bains, Hilary Zunin; brother Tom Stanton; and numerous extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of Susan's favorite organizations: Seattle Pro-Musica Frye Art Museum Seattle Symphony A celebration of life will be held in summer 2017, in Seattle. Date TBD.
