Thomas Lee DeBord, 76, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2019. Tom graduated from Sylvania High School in Sylvania, Ohio and lettered in football. He then served in the US Navy from 1961-1964. He was stationed at Sanford NAS, Sanford, Florida. After that, Tom made a career as a machinist and tool die maker. He was a life time musician and a renowned bass player and played in several bands. He also had his own group known as Harmony Station. Tom came to Tennessee because of his love for music; especially gospel and bluegrass. He really enjoyed playing at Church Hill Senior Center once a week. He also played with The Church Hill Gentlemen and at his church, Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist in Church Hill. Prior to that, he led the choir at Romeo Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Arthur and Betty Jane DeBord. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Jamesene (Jimmie); his daughters, Cindy Hofstetter, Debra Laneau and husband Rick and Pamela Altman and husband Ron all from Florida; brother, Joseph DeBord; sister, Diana Kidwell and husband Joe; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10-12 on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A funeral service will follow at 12 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ETSU Bluegrass Old Time, PO Box 70435, Johnson City, TN 37614.
