Thomas Eugene McGhee, 75, of North Port, FL, passed away on Thursday, May 10th surrounded by family and friends. Tom was born in Lebanon, Indiana in 1937. He will be remembered as a sensible, practical, humorous, steadfast, trustworthy, loving, and honorable man with strong mid-west values. Tom never lost his sense of humor and enjoyed making us all laugh. After graduating from Lebanon High School, he left for Tulsa University in 1955 and graduated with a degree in Business. He married Joan Buller in 1964, started a family in Santa Monica, CA and launched a 40 year career in the furniture business. In 1981, Tom married the love of his life Noreen Malloy Ferrara and together they raised six children. They lived in Tualatin, OR for 18 years. After retiring in 1998, Tom and Noreen moved to Venice, FL where Tom lived out the remainder of his days cruising the Gulf Waters and warming his bones in the South Florida sun. Tom loved sports. He always became a loyal fan of his local town teams, from high school to professional, while keeping the old ones in his heart. Tom loved his hometowns, past and current. He insisted on “shopping local” even before it was fashionable and went out of his way to support his community. Tom loved being on the water, and Charlotte Harbor never saw a happier captain. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Noreen, sister Betty Ann, children Maryn, Ken, Steve, Suesan, Michelle, and Laura, and 10 grandchildren, Shaye, Ashley, Cole, Jackson, Lily, Hannah, Steven, Mia, Xander and Cosler. He was preceded in death by his parents Percy and Elizabeth McGhee and his brother David McGhee.
