Ursula M Fisher
July 2nd, 1938 - July 4th, 2024
Ursula “Uschi” Martha (Flicke) Fisher passed away peacefully; with family members by her side, on July 4, 2024, at the age of 86.
She was diagnosed with ALS in 2020, and bravely with determination and strong will, faced all of the obstacles with her disease. She continued her daily routine, maintaining an immaculate home and household, preparing German meals for her husband, Richard, hosting luncheons and serving delicious food and desserts to her German girlfriends who jokingly nicknamed themselves the “Golden Girls” and working in her flower and vegetable gardens, until she became bedridden.
She was determined to live until her 86th birthday, which she celebrated with her family and friends, and read all of the birthday cards.
She had a beautiful smile which was contagious, and she kept her wonderful sense of humor throughout her ordeal.
Uschi was born July 2, 1938, in Tannroda, Germany, to Martha Minna (Ludwig) Flicke and Karl Erich Flicke. She grew up with her older brother, Lothar, and younger brothers, Peter Flicke and Gunter Flicke, in Tannroda, Germany. She attended formal schooling until she was 14, and in the eighth grade. She attended business school for 2 years. Learning all the aspects of retail sales, half the day in the classroom and half the day with hands-on training in the store, in all of the different sections, including fresh and packages produce, cheese, meats, and poultry including cuts, preparation, storage and display. She also worked in the clothing, shoes, candy, and textiles departments.
She worked as a salesclerk until 1957, when she moved to Stuttgart, Germany, where she worked as a cook/shift supervisor at the Frauen (Women’s) Hospital. She later worked as a salesclerk for large department stores in the Stuttgart area. During this time, she became good friends with a couple who had an Italian restaurant, and they asked her to come work for them, and she worked as a waitress and in the kitchen with food preparation.
Uschi met the love of her life, Richard Eldridge Fisher in 1963, who was stationed with the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, and were married on February 8, 1965.
They enjoyed their military career for 23 years, and were fortunate to spend 4 tours in Germany, and assignments at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, and Fort Carson, Colorado finally settling in Colorado Springs, upon his retirement. Retirement life did not last long. In 1983 Richard obtained employment as a Civil Service civilian with the U.S. Army in Germany.
During the next 15 years, Uschi and Richard lived in several different location in Germany, while he worked for both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. She and Richard returned to their home in Colorado Springs in 1998.
Wherever Richard’s career took them, Uschi always kept a warm and inviting home for her family and friends and worked in sales. Uschi’s favorite thing was spending time with her daughter, Patricia “Patty” Ursula (Fisher) Galvan, and her husband Dr. Robert R. Galvan Jr., while Robert was stationed in Texas, Georgia and Louisiana and later with her granddaughter, Isabelle Jayne Galvan, at their home in Austin, Texas.
She also enjoyed traveling to most of the countries in Europe, dancing, reading, watching good movies, and shopping. Her passion was cooking and baking, and she enjoyed experimenting with new recipes which always turned out wonderful.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Erich Flicke and Martha Flicke, and her brother, Peter Flicke.
Those left to cherish her love and memories are her husband, Richard Elridge Fisher; daughter, Patty Fisher Galvan; son-in-law Dr. Robert R. Gavaln Jr.; granddaughter, Isabelle Jayne Galvan, of Austin, Texas; brothers, Lothar Flicke, of Weimar, Germany, and Gunter Flicke, of Tannroda, Germany; cousin, Otto Flicke of Stuttgart, Germany; nieces, Gabi (Flicke) Rausch, and Patra (Flicke) Noldner, both of Weimar, Germany, and Claudia (Flicke) Cantzler or Leutershausen, Germany; and nephews, Gerd Flicke and Rainer Flicke, both of Kranichfeld, Germany, and many more extended family and friends that loved her dearly.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the nurses, CNA’s and social workers of the Pikes Peak Palliative Care and Hospice; Uschi’s Speech Therapist, Caroline White, her home care provider, Tonya Washburn, and her closest friends, the “Golden Girls” for their tender loving and support they gave Uschi.
She loved all of you!
