Vera Regina Caldwell Simmons, 87, of Sun City Center passed away on April 30th, 2016. She was born on November 9, 1928 in Baltimore Maryland to Henrietta Margaret Thiess Caldwell and William Thomas Caldwell. Vera was a graduate of Seton Hall Nursing School in Baltimore, Maryland. She married Dr. Frederic R Simmons on June 24, 1950 in Baltimore with Fred's brother, Father Thomas Simmons officiating. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents, Etta and William; 4 siblings, William T. Caldwell, Gerald V. Caldwell, Kenneth George Caldwell, Melvin Joseph Caldwell and grandson Kevin Caldwell Simmons. Vera is survived by her daughter, Jeannie (Tedd) Wilson of Seacrest, FL; daughter Carol Simmons of San Francisco, CA; son Fred (Barbara) Simmons of Tampa, FL; son, Jim Simmons of San Diego, CA; son Joe (Mary) Simmons of Tampa, FL and son Mike (Ruth) Simmons of Chesapeake, VA; 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Vera was a long time resident of Daytona Beach, FL where she lived from 1956 to 2000. She and Fred raised their children in Daytona and she worked as a nurse in Fred's pediatric office (McCall and Simmons), volunteered in many organizations in Daytona including the Junior Service League and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She moved with her husband to Sun City Center and volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry and The Sun City Center Volunteer Security Patrol Dispatch. She was also a member of the Registered Nurses Association. Vera was a generous, kind, loving woman who had a strong faith. She enjoyed singing, laughing, reading, praying and spending time with her family. She made her home a warm and welcoming place for all. She enjoyed a very loving 57 year marriage and delighted in her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was truly a beautiful light for all who knew her. Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission Church, WImauma, FL, on May 26, 2016 at 11 AM with Rev. Anthony J. Giannamore officiating. There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following in the Church's Education Building. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe or the Volunteer Emergency Squad of Sun City Center. Arrangements by Sun City Center Funeral Home, Sun City Center, FL.
